ACUPUNCTURE

A form of therapy dating back at least 2000 years and perfected over centuries of observation.  Illness and pain are perceived to be an indication of deficiency or blockage in the flow of energy (Qi) around the body.  Ultra-fine needles are inserted into defined points on the body, where they make contact with this energy and act to re-balance the flow, thereby promoting healing and equilibrium.

WHAT CAN ACUPUNCTURE DO?

The World Health Organisation has published a long list of conditions for which acupuncture has been proved - through controlled trials - to be an effective treatment.  Examples include:- hay fever, headache, high blood pressure, low back pain, depression, rheumatoid arthritis, morning sickness.  A further list includes conditions for which the therapeutic effect of acupuncture has been shown, but not yet proved, such as acne, insomnia, fibromyalgia, earache and many others.

Charlotte Evans
BSc LicAc AAC

I started my working life as a State Registered Nurse in London and later moved to Birmingham to become a Cancer Clinical Trials Coordinator at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.  During this time I completely lost my sense of taste and smell following a severe viral infection.  I was told, by a hospital Consultant, that nerve endings had been damaged and that the condition would be permanent.  A friend suggested that I try Acupuncture - I felt that I had nothing to lose and so began my relationship with this wonderful, ancient system of medicine.  I found treatment relaxing and beneficial; I began to feel better in myself and, within a year, my sense of taste was almost fully restored.

After a career break, I made the decision to re-train as an Acupuncturist.  I enrolled at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading and, three and a half years later, emerged with a Degree and Licentiate in Acupuncture.
